About Me

A little about me for those who don’t know already, or who stumble upon this blog….
We are a family of 5, (Me, Hubby- Mark, Son-Will 14yr, Daughter- Mikayla 21 mo, Daughter Makenzie 6 mo) living in Northwest Indiana, (minutes away from the southside of Chicago) that like many other families live on a budget.  I am currently a Stay at Home Mom in a surprise blessing where I lost my job a little over a month before my youngest daughter was born.  However, somewhere in the next year or so I will be going back to work, and I hope that I can continue to budget and spend as little once we become a 2 income family again so that we can get to living a life completely debt free soon.

After some experience couponing (yes, couponing is a word and it is an action verb!) and learning how to really work some deals, I have set forth to challenge my family to fully live life off of a $50 a week out of pocket budget.

The thing is that I plan to LIVE off of $50 out of pocket a week, so that means we will still eat out, still enjoy ourselves, still get new clothes and shoes, but we will be buying not only groceries with our $50 out of pocket a week, but also toiletries, diapers, wipes, clothing, shoes, health and beauty products and dining out.  With the exception of planned major events $50 out of pocket a week will be covering all expenses that do not have a regular monthly bill at our home, except one thing….gas for my car.  This expense is very small because we are blessed to have my husband’s company car to do most of our traveling, but depending on things going on in life and the cost of a barrel of oil, this item will change so much I didn’t want to include it in my regular budget.  I will however, keep track of my gas expenses, just to know where our money is going.
