Well....

We are finally getting things in order.  I am so excited about our choice to homeschool and I will definitely be talking about that more later, but it looks like I might have time to post a few deals here and there for a while :)  Thanks for waiting for me to get back and thanks for the support.

LIFE

I was amazed to see the e-mails I got asking how I was since I haven't posted since Friday....you like me, you really do :)

Well, life has happened.  To make it short,  just got a new job.  A crazy demanding job.  I am officially homeschooling my 14 year old son.  This was an abrupt decision so I have been spending this week getting things in order and learning there is A LOT to do to homeschool a high schooler.  So please forgive me, but  have to focus on my son this week and I hope to be back sharing deals with you all as early as this weekend.

Thanks for your concern and PLEASE keep us in your prayers.

Rebate: Nexcare bandages

Nexcare bandages are on sale for 2.99 at Walgreens, and you can get a rebate for the full cost of the bandages up to $3.99 per type up to $11.97.

Look for packages that say "Try me free - buy 1, 2, or 3 different types of Nexcare bandages and receive a rebate of up to 3.99 per type up to 11.97."

Here's your chance for free bandages!

Pair this deal with coupons and RR and you will have a nice Money Maker and a way to turn some of your RR into cash.

Here's how:
Buy 3 DIFFERENT types of Nexcare bandages at 2.99 each = $8.97
- 3 $.55/1 coupons from the 4/3 SS= $7.32

Pay with RR after adding fillers to the transaction or pay the $7.32 out of pocket.  Either way, send off for $8.97 to be returned to you by rebate and you have AT LEAST a $1.65 Money Maker and 3 boxes of free bandages.

Rebates are a great way to stretch your budget.  I use rebates to help me make my $50 a week budget work.  I will be adding this rebate to the Rebate Page that you can access here

Free bag of Frito Lay chips

Go to the Frito Lay Facebook page to get 1 of 24,000 free bags of chips at 2PM CST.  Hurry this deal will go quick!

It's Mega Swagbucks Day!!!

Today is Mega swagbucks day, which means instead of earning the usual 10-20 swagbucks on a search, you can earn between 40-1000, even 2000 swagbucks on a single search! Swagbucks is undoubtedly one of the easiest way to make a little extra money on line.  You just search the internet like you always do, but instead of using google or yahoo, you use swagbucks and get paid with swagbucks for random searches.  Swagbucks can be redeemed for giftcards and even cash!

Here are the basics of how the program works:
When you sign up at  SWAGBUCKS,  you'll get 30 points just for signing up.  You then can install their toolbar and get a buck each day, just for using the toolbar. All you have to do is use the tool bar to do all your "searches".  Instead of using favorites to go to a site, or typing in the url that you already know, just type it into the search bar for a chance to win.  You can even use "google" as a search to go to google and do a real search, most people win some bucks 2-3 times per day. You don't get points on every search you do because they are random and vary from 5 or 7 points up to 11, 17, or even 36.  Then on Fridays, wins are worth more than normal up to 2000.

And best of all it is totally FREE. No obligations other than using the swagbucks bar to do searches from if you want to earn swagbucks. Remember, if you use one of the links for swagbucks on here you'll get 30 points for FREE when you register.  If you feel adventurous you can play some games, do some special offers, or daily tasks to get even more bucks.  I have gotten over $100 in Amazon gift cards (that I use to buy hair products and keep my weekly budget low) and I have gotten over $125 in cash through Paypal (you can use this to trade cash for coupons at clipping sites, pay for your newspaper subscription, or trade for coupons on e-bay, without effecting your monthly budget)

Use "THRIFTY" at jcp.com until Saturday, April 30 for $10 off purchase of $25 or more. Or print coupon to use in store.

Wagreens: Free Soft Sheen Products

I apologize for not mentioning this deal earlier this month, but there are still 2 days left to grab a great deal on soft sheen products. The Optimum Care Oil Therapy Products (the yellow ones) are as low as $3.99 at some Walgreens locations.  Use the Walgreens coupon pictures above that you can print here or obtain it in the Monthly Instant Value book (located in stores, but since it is the end of the month it might be scarce) and you will get these products free.  PLUS, some stores are reported as having $1 off manufacturer peelies on the products, that will make this a good deal even if you don't have a lucky store with it priced $3.99.  You can also get the Optimum Salon Care (the red ones) products for about $5.29 (again prices vary by store) and use the $4 Walgreens coupon and this manufacturer coupon located here for $2 off and more free products!

(be sure to have something in your order to absorb the overage, if any).

And the Winner is....

First,

You all can NOT follow directions...lol. The directions clearly said "Don't forget to leave a separate comment for each entry/task you complete".  Some people did, some didn't and well the only fair thing I could do is just pick a number between 1 and 14, which is what I did...

And the Winner is the 4th comment/post: Whitney! Whitney send me an e-mail at challenge2budget@yahoo.com with your mailing address so I can get your coupons to you.

Thank you all for your great job in spreading the word, Challenge 2 Budget has 79 Facebook Fans and 26 Blog Followers!!! I don't know a lot about blogs, but people have told me that is great for a blog that is less than 3 weeks old, so I am excited.  Look for another giveaway soon!

Thursday Tips

Each Thursday I will try to provide you some tips on how to start/keep up with/ learn how to coupon. Many are not sure where to start and get overwhelmed with the entire process of couponing.  I am sure that after looking at this week $15 Wednesday post, you might have decided that although my haul was outstanding, you just are not going to be able to do it. Well, I am hear to tell you that you can and to show you where to start….

This week lesson: Determine what type of couponer you want to be.

Casual: The Casual Couponer cares about how much they spend.  They shop sales and they often will by off brand items to save money.  If something has a good price they will get 1 or two of these things and they typically shop about 1-2 times a month for the whole month in an effort to save money.  They do use coupons on items that find a good deal on, but overall they think they can do much better at Aldi, Sam’s Club or Costco without have to clip coupons.  They focus on how much they saved when they look at their receipt.

Sale Cycle: The Sale Cycle Couponer knows that most items go on sale about every 3 months and they try to get those things when they go on sale for the best price and to get enough of that thing to last for those 3 months.  They get 1 or maybe 2 newspapers a week to have inserts available for these deals and they might go to a clipping site to get coupons if a good dealt  comes up.  They often clip all the coupons they might use and wait until a good sale to use these coupons.  They will not buy anything they don’t normally get just because there is a coupon and they focus on how much they save, but are determined to save 40-60% off their bills.

Super: The Super Couponer is on the other half of the spectrum so they have taken it up to another level. The Super Couponer knows that there are sales cycles and will buy some things based on the sale cyles, but the Super couponer looks for the perfect combination of coupons and loss leaders during a sale cycle and then stocks up on what they need.  Their stockpile is more than 3 months and on average 3-24 months of a product. The Super Couponer will either have multiple subscriptions or have found websites that offer clipped coupons for extras.  This couponer special orders some items and will buy things they don’t need to get something they do need free. They are focused on how much they spend instead of how much they save.  Super Couponers can often get things for free and will many times get the store to pay them to get items.  They typically like to spend $5 or less for $100-$200 worth of items.

Extreme/Hoarder: The Extreme/ hoarder Couponer  got a good sale one day and had rode that thrill like a good high.  They have little room dedicated to their coupons and spend 60 hours a week couponing.  They will leave family and friends for a good deal and are actually sick to their stomach when they miss a deal. They will buy items they never needed or wanted because they are $.10 and regularly $5.  Their houses are stockpiled out of control and their family and friends are on the verge of getting them inpatient therapy.  Extreme couponer will focus on the amount spent and the %  they save, which ever one justifies their obsession that day.

This is a spectrum of couponing so you do not have to fit into one category or the next, this is just a means to figure out where you want to be and you can be in the middle of two, a little closer to one than the other and sometimes jump up and then go back down the spectrum.  There is no wrong place (well, that hoarder level is a little out there...lol), and so many outside things have to be taken into account (space, stores in your area) so just figure out your goal and aim for it.  Feel free to ask if you have any questions too.

Where do you think you are, where do you want to be?

$15 Wednesdays

Many people simply don’t understand how couponing can save them money and many swear that they always spend more money when they use coupons.  Well, each Wednesday, I plan to share with you what can be purchased this week (Wednesday-Tuesday) with just $15 using coupons.  These scenarios are based on stores in the Chicagoland area, although some stores utilized are national chains (Target, Walgreens, CVS, Supervalu Stores, Safeway Stores).  These scenarios also assume the shopper has committed to purchasing/subscribing to 4 weekly Sunday inserts and has the ability to print coupons from 2 computers (4 internet printables). The $15 is also pre-tax.  So now that we covered the rules….

For $15 this week,

You can start off your day at Ultra Foods where they take expired coupons up to 30 days past due.

As I mentioned overage at Target is a YMMV thing, BUT most of the items you can buy at Target, can also be bought at Walmart and Walmart’s coupon policy CLEARLY states you can get overage.  Target in my experience is more coupon friendly than Walmart as a whole, but each store is different, so get to know how they are in your neighborhood.    Technically it is fraudulent for Target or any other store to adjust down a coupon they will be reimbursed for at full face value, but it is hard to explain this to some people who do not understand how coupons work.  Also please note that target store coupons will sometimes automatically adjust down to the cost of the item, since a target store coupon is really just a discount/sale that target is giving you, this is perfectly fair.
